We hold monthly food drives outside Waitrose in Burgess Hill
The next food drive is on Saturday 21st October 2017.
As well as our monthly Food Drives, permanent collection bins like this one have been set up in Burgess Hill for food donations at the Help Point, Church Walk, in Waitrose, at Burgess Hill Library, in the reception at Burgess Hill Academy, Miss Mabel's Magnificent Emporium, Victoria Road (next to Wickes), and the two new Cooperative stores in London Road and Junction Road.
The Help Point is open from 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday (10am on Wednesdays) and 9.30 - 12.30 on Saturdays.
Library opening hours are Monday - Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm, Saturday 10am - 4pm.
We also have three dump bins outside Burgess Hill, one is in Hurst Library, one at the Coop in Hurst, and the third is at 'Space for Spiritual Living' (Keymer Rd, Hassocks). Please do feel free to drop any food you would like to donate to us there (we cover clients in Hurst & Hassocks as well as other surrounding villages)
||Please note that these collection bins are only for individual donations of a few items. If you have a larger amount to donate, please email email@example.com and we will arrange to collect it from you.
We have a shopping list of items we are collecting - click here
If your organisation would like to have its own dump bin for food collections, either permanently or on an occasional basis, email firstname.lastname@example.org
The food that we are given is sorted, checked for suitability and best before dates and assembled into packs for handing to our clients. Sometimes we may be given items that do not match our requirements, but we have ways of using them. For example we can offer them to other organisations dealing with people in need of help. We have also donated basic food items to the annual Burgess Hill Christmas Box schemes.
A word about toiletries...
We are very grateful to everyone who donates to the Burgess Hill Community Food Bank - the service couldn't operate without your donations.
Over the last year however, we have seen a massive increase in the donation of toiletries, not just single items but sometimes up to a trolley load. As a Food Bank our priority has, and always will be, the provision of food to those who are in financial crisis. Our storage space is limited and our throughput is much less than it would be in an inner city. We have broadened our remit so now when clients bring a voucher to the distribution point they receive the appropriate amount of
food and also are offered a choice of a couple of items from a box containing toiletries. With the number of clients that we have and the limited popularity of these items, we now find ourselves in the situation where we have a massive excess of toiletries. We now have to find suitable organisations to pass them on to, as we have so much more than our clients need.
We are therefore requesting that you continue to be generous in your donations - but please stick to food and not toiletries.
We can now accept online donations through the MyDonate website. Click on logo below to go straight to our page.
There are also collecting tins for cash donations at our food drives.
If you are able to donate any other supplies, either as an individual or a business, or if you have any other queries, please contact our supply team:
